T.W.A.S. October 26-29

This week at school we saw the Kenyan Boys Choir. They were singing for the Me To We club. We are typing our animal research on the computers. We are making pumpkin muffins to eat or take home to eat. We went to the library for our animal Research. Just before this we did math. We had to add a verity of candy up to 35 dollars. We had French and we wrote stories. We wrote Halloween stories like brown bear brown what do you see.

T.W.A.S.

T.W.A.S. Writing (This Week at School - Oct 19-23)

This week at school we did a math assessment on paper.  We had to count how many wheels are on bikes, scooters, and skateboards.  They had to equal 25 wheels.
The bikes had 2 wheels, the scooters had 3 wheels, and the skateboards had 4 wheels.

We also did a project about an animal for science. Most people did turtles and snakes.

This week at school we did the character box. It was fun.

We also did Social Studies about 4 different countries. The countries are India, Tunisia, Ukraine, and Peru.

We also learned French words for Halloween. Some sounded like English like vampire it was spelled the same but said differently. It was really fun because they were fun to learn.

THIS WEEK AT SCHOOL

Our class had buddies with the kindergarten class on Friday.  We played with the cards and the dominoes.

We put our fall poems on our leaf paintings we made.

We had Show and Teach today and L. brought a birds nest, A. brought in some Romanian money and M. brought in books about animal adaptations.

A couple kids brought in literacy games to play during Free Time or after Journal Writing.

Our class has a “Character Box.”  In this box, students write a note about another student who has done something that takes care of themselves, each other, or our place. Then Ms. Rutland takes the notes out and the class reads them. After that we
put them back in and then Ms. Rutland picks two out and they get a prize.

We had a guest come and teach us about “expected and unexpected” behaviours.  Expected behaviours are good behaviours and unexpected behaviours are things like ignoring people, not listening, or goofing around.  These are things that make other people have bad or uncomfortable thoughts.

We started a science research project so we had to pick an animal that was not in the zoo.  We are writing jot notes about our animal’s adaptations, physical characteristics, habitat, life cycle, survival/defense, food, and interesting facts.

On Thursday afternoon, after fitness time in gym with Ms. Hardacre, we had cursive writing with Madame Gagne.

Ralph Klein Park Field Trip

On a beautiful sunny day at the end of September, both Grade 3 classes headed off to Ralph Klein Park for a field trip to learn about animal adaptations.  This state-of-the-art man-made wetland was created to help clean the water from the Bow River.  Students explored some of the adaptations of bears; dog and cats; hoofed animals such as deer and moose; birds; and rodents such as beavers and muskrats using models of skeletons and pelts of fur or hair.  Students explored their own creative side sketching a made-up animal with adaptations they created.  Finally, we took a walk outdoors to further explore the constructed wetland and some of the homes animals have created there.

Math Problem

It started with the following math problem:
Max said the following group was a pattern but Sam said it wasn't.  Who is right and why do you think so?

X O X O O X O O O

Most students didn't think this group was a pattern.  So we got out some pattern blocks and viola!  We were exploring the interesting world of increasing patterns!

Welcome!

Welcome to our Grade 3 class blog!  Here you will find interesting pictures and updates about things we are excited about in our class.  Watch for some student updates too!
