This week at school was so busy we didn't even have time to write about it! So this is being recorded by Ms. Rutland.
We continue to work on our Social Studies postcards. Students have created their pic collages and are now writing the postcard from their travel to either Ukraine, Peru, India, and Tunisia. A couple of the collages are below - but be sure to stop by our class at the end of January to see the finished projects on the bulletin board.
Our classrooms have been noisily building instruments from recycled materials in Science and we've just begun presenting these to each other.
The Estimation Jar has begun and kids and parents have kept us busy estimating, counting, and adding. Thanks for your support with this! We've also been skip counting with money and are continuing to work on the steps of 3 digit addition and subtraction.
A highlight of the week was a presentation from "Motivational Magic" where we learned that by filling other people's buckets we fill our own. The students took this to heart with a record number of contributions made to our character box!
We are looking forward to finishing our postcards and musical presentation next week! I'm sure it will be just as busy!

This week at school was pretty scientific because we made
garbage instruments, using garbage and recycled materials. Some made guitars, drums,
and maracas. It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! After we finished we filled out a
sheet that had lots of different questions we had to answer. Some were the task
you had to complete, materials, what didn’t work well and what worked well, and
last if you tried doing this again what would you change. This week we also did
drama/ P.E. we picked a fruit or veggies and talked about why they are so
healthy. It was really AWESOME! Not all of us got to share with the class.
Today was Hawaiian Day. You had to dress in Hawaiian like a flower necklace (maybe
a dress for the girls and shorts and a t –shirt for boys).
We did some social studies learning about India, Tunisia,
Peru, and Ukraine. We are making a post card and pretending we are in that
country. We used Pic Collage to make a
collage. We took pictures without the text.

In science we made homemade instruments to explore sound.
Also we watched a video with wine glasses filled with water. It really tricked
my eyes. We started a new novel: The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane on
Tuesday. In math we skip count with coins and added a container of coins. In Social
Studies we compared 2 counties using a Venn Diagram. In L.A. we read a book
called Eats, Shoots, and Leaves. In gym we did floor hockey and our favorite parts
was when we shot a goal. At buddies we read dinosaur books and when we were
done we played domino bingo.
